    I died.

    Again.

    The message appeared so often that I stopped reading it after a while. The font never changed. The tone was always polite. Death, apparently, had excellent customer service.

    Fire. Poison. Betrayal. Execution.

    Death and I had cleared every route together.

    By my tenth death, I was annoyed.

    By my thirtieth, bored.

    By the time I reached my hundredth death, the system stopped offering advice.

    That was when I realized something was wrong.
