Mana is life, but Eric is starving.

To live, he must kill. To grow, he must consume.

Eric in his dying moment, desperately wished to live again. To avenge not his death, but his friend's. He was dragged back from death by a mysterious system to fulfill his dying wish, but after he's seen the end of his friend's killers, Eric realized he didn't return to life just for vengeance games.
